HELLO, I’M VIVIAN
Welcome!
ABOUT ME:
The Heart Behind the Art
I am a self-taught mixed-media artist based in Kansas City creating large-scale abstract watercolor paintings. My work is an exploration of the complex intuitions of the human emotional spectrum. At the heart of it, my paintings are a fluid testament to human connection—inviting the viewer into a space of boundless curiosity and shared joy.
The Process
In my studio, compromise has no place. Every piece is built to last for generations, using only the finest professional-grade materials. I create on extra-fine, 100% Belgian linen canvas, primed with acid-free gesso. To ensure maximum longevity and a flawless surface, I meticulously apply three to four layers of watercolor ground, carefully hand-sanding between each layer to protect the underlying fibers. Each piece is structurally supported by professional-grade, knot-free pinewood stretcher bars and brought to life using only superior, artist-grade paints. For me, quality and permanence are of the utmost importance.
My practice
Entirely intuitive. I layer color, depth, and texture in a way that allows the medium to dictate its own path—moving freely, just as water does. Every canvas becomes a visual landscape of emotion, balanced by natural movement and intentional layers.
The Journey
For more than 15 years, I have worked in healthcare. This unique perspective of looking beneath the surface of the human experience has taught me about how we feel, heal, and understand one another without words. This profoundly altered the way I approach a blank canvas.
I first picked up a paintbrush during my college years, only to realize I had uncovered my true passion. Nearly two decades later, that spark has grown into a dedicated creative practice.
My Hope for Your Space
Whether a piece of mine hangs in a gallery or finds its permanent home on your wall, my goal is to bring a sense of joy, light, and a deeper emotional connection to your everyday environment.
Thank you so much for being here!
With love,
xx
